The choice of a wedding cake is worthy of considerable thought. This one item serves as both decorative centerpiece for the reception venue and the final culinary note on which your guests' meal will conclude. Your cake can be anything you want it to be.

Tastings/Consultations
Planning a wedding is a time consuming and sometimes stressful process. At Sublime Bakery, we want to make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible. If you're in the "window shopping" phase of planning, you may stop by the bakery during normal business hours to pick up a Wedding Packet (or we can email you the PDF version). The packet contains all the basic info you'll need to determine if we're right for your event. You may also purchase a Tasting Box which contains four of our most popular flavor combinations (cost is $15 which is applied to your contract if you book your cake with us. If you've already secured your spot on our calendar with a deposit your Tasting Box is free). Please allow us 48 hours notice to prepare your Tasting Box. If you're further along in the process and want to schedule a consult, we have several tasting/consultation days each month, please call the bakery for this month's schedule. Appointments require a pre-paid $15 non-refundable deposit which is applied to your contract if you choose to book your cake with us (this includes your Tasting Box). Please keep in mind that we accept a limited number of custom cake orders, and that a $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your slot on our calendar.
At your consult we'll look at photos, discuss your wedding plans, and address any questions you may have. Unless you know what you want, we will ask you a lot of questions to determine your style and tastes in cake design. After this initial visit, Catherine will send you a detailed proposal with pricing information. In most cases, several pricing tiers will be presented for you to choose from. We recommend starting this process at least 3-6 months prior to your wedding. Usually this one meeting and a few emails is all it takes to design your cake.
Design
Let your cake reflect who you are. If your style is classic and conservative you will want your cake to reflect these sensibilities. On the other hand, if you are a creative free-spirit, your cake should express your unique vision.
Color
Wedding cakes do not have to be white or ivory. The classic white cake will always be a classic but there are many options for those who want something different. Color is a great way to add personality to your cake. You may incorporate a touch of color or go wild with it.
Flowers
Flowers can be an important part of cake design. If you wish to incorporate flowers I recommend using gum paste flowers instead of fresh specimens. We have an exceptional sugar artist who creates gum paste flowers for us, most are indistinguishable from the real thing and are far safer. Some fresh blooms are treated with chemicals that should not come in contact with food items. If you decide to use fresh flowers please consult carefully with your floral designer. I will not place fresh flowers on your cake so you'll need to be sure and plan to have your florist do this.
Size
Generally speaking, I'll make your cake to serve the number of guests you expect plus a little extra for last minute additions. But, keep in mind that your cake can really be any size you want it to be. Let's say your heart's desire is for a grand scale confection of 5 tiers but you only have 100 guests to feed. I can use Styrofoam "dummy" tiers iced and decorated to match the real cake tiers to add height.
Anniversary Tier
It has long been a popular custom to reserve the top tier of the cake for the new couple to enjoy on their first anniversary. This tradition began in the days when special occasion cakes were made with heavily syruped and liquored fruitcakes, and yes, these cakes would last almost indefinitely with no loss of flavor! My cakes are freshly made from scratch with no preservatives. I do not recommend saving the top tier as it is sure to disappoint (especially if iced in fondant!). I offer a First Anniversary Cake option with your wedding cake contract- for just $45 (free for orders over $1,000) I'll bake the bride and groom a fresh 6 inch cake to enjoy on their first anniversary. This is much less expensive than including an extra tier on your decorated cake and tastes so much better, too!
Pricing
Each cake has many variables. We take into account the number of servings, the complexity of design elements, and other particulars that may be important to you. Generally speaking, buttercream iced cakes will start at $3 per serving, fondant and ganache at $5 per serving and chocolate wrap at $7 per serving. I find that most of my clients choose cakes in the $4 to $8 per serving price range. There is a $150 minimum order for all cakes.
Flavors
We have many flavor combinations available (please see the custom cake menu page for a complete listing). We flavor all of our cake with "real" ingredients, not little bottles of artificial extract. So, if you choose a Mocha flavor we use espresso and chocolate, if you choose a Strawberry flavor we use fresh strawberries. We also make gluten-free and vegan cakes and Catherine is currently in development on Diabetic-friendly options.
Groom's Cake
This tradition is typically Southern and is a great opportunity for the groom to express himself. The groom's cake is usually served at the reception but many couples are choosing to highlight this cake at the rehearsal dinner. If served at the reception, this cake is generally made to serve 60 - 75 percent of the headcount, though you may choose to offer a slice for every guest. Don't limit yourself when it comes to design, this is a wonderful opportunity to be creative and expressive.
Catherine-
We both wanted to thank you for the great job you did on our cakes. They were both beautiful and delicious! Our minister and his wife said they were the best cakes they have seen - and they go to a lot of weddings!
